second annual Tupac Shakur Birthday Concert.
The concert, which also served as a benefit, was held at the Tupac Amaru Shakur Centre for the Arts in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
“As the sole member of UGK, I understand and accept the role of upholding a legacy,” said Bun B in a statement.
“It’s not an easy task, and I accept and appreciate the love and support for family, friends, fans and supporters alike. So I’m always ready to help uphold the honour of hip-hop’s fallen soldier. I take pride in standing and remembering Tupac, one of the greatest ever.”
The event was presented by both comedian Mike Epps and Afeni Shakur, the mother of the late rapper.
“This charity event helps support the Tupac Amaru Shakur Centre for the Arts in Atlanta,” Mike Epps explained in a statement.
Meanwhile, after years of speculation, Dexter Issac, a convict and former associate of Czar Entertainment CEO James “Jimmy Henchman” Rosemond, has come forward and admitted to shooting rap legend Tupac Shakur in 1994 under the orders of Rosemond.
In a statement to allhiphop.com, Issac – who is currently serving a life sentence in prison for murder and robbery convictions – confessed to assaulting Shakur on November 30, 1994 at Quad Studios for US$2 500 given to him by Rosemond.
“In 1994, James Rosemond hired me to rob (Tupac) Shakur at the Quad Studio. He gave me US$2 500 plus all the jewellery I took, except for one ring which he wanted for himself. I want to apologise to his family (Tupac Shakur) and for the mistake I did for that sucker (Jimmy Henchman),” Issac wrote.
“I am trying to clean it up to give (Tupac and Biggie’s) mothers some closure.”
As hip-hop fans know, Tupac was reportedly shot five times on the night of November 30. It is unclear if Issac admitted to firing all five shots. The Notorious B.I.G. was also in the studio at the time of Pac’s attack, and Shakur believed that he had something to do with the incident, which resulted in a deadly feud between the two MCs. This isn’t the first time Rosemond’s name has come up in the attack. Shakur fingered Rosemond in the shooting on his song “Against All Odds”.
“And did I mention/Promised a payback, Jimmy Henchman/In due time/I knew you whack niggas was listening/The world is mine/Set me up/Wet me up/Niggas stuck me up/Heard the guns bust/But you tricks never shut me up.”
As previously reported, Rosemond is currently on the run following a federal arrest warrant for his alleged involvement in a cocaine distribution ring.
In a statement issued to XXLMag.com on May 23, 2011 Rosemond called Issac an informant that was helping the government in their case against him.
“If the government is relying on informants like Winston ‘Winnie’ Harris, a convicted drug dealer and Jamaican deportee, who came to me and motioned via hand signal that he was forced to wear a wire and begged me to skip town or Dexter Isaac who is serving life in prison plus 30 years then I’m sure I will not be offered a fair trial.
“Where’s the real proof that I have committed these crimes? I just want my fair trial and to not be railroaded as they so eagerly want to do.”
Issac said these false allegations by Rosemond motivated him to come forward. He also said, that since the statute of limitations on the crime is up, he feels comfortable admitting his wrongdoing.
Tupac would have turned 40 years old on Wednesday June 16. – XXL.marg/hiphopdx.com/ Entertainment Reporter.
