MATABELELAND Tuskers raced to a 139 run-lead over Mountaineers at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on the second day of this Logan Cup.The hosts were 289 after 90 overs with no wicket remaining as they steadied towards a comfortable win barring a monumental collapse in the  second innings.

On Tuesday they managed to bowl out the visitors for a paltry 150 runs.

A strong bowling performance led by Luke Jongwe with five wickets while conceding 32 runs in 17 overs, four from Brian Vitori for 60 and a single by Stephen Chimhwamhiwa was all Tuskers needed to dismiss Mountaineers.

Jongwe did not disappoint yesterday when he turned to batting, hitting a half century. He was on the crease for 140 minutes in which he faced 109 balls.  He had Richmond Mutumbami coming to the party with a score of 55, Godwill Mamhiyo (48), Keith Dabengwa and John Nyumbu scoring 38 apiece as Tuskers threatened to run over their opponents.

Mountaineers will bat this morning hoping to restore a glimmer of hope of turning the tables fully aware of the deficit of 139 they need to overturn and build strongly towards stopping Tuskers in their tracks.

In the other match Mashonaland Eagles trail Midwest Rhinos by 235 runs with nine wickets of the second innings. In the first innings Eagles were all out for 133 runs and in their second they added 24 on their way to losing two men.

Visiting Rhinos found themselves with a handsome score of 392 when they took to batting at Harare Sports Club.
