THE Warriors’ African Nations Championship (Chan) Group D opponents Uganda will play two friendly matches against Gabon and continental giants Cameroon ahead of the Rwanda jamboree.

The two friendly matches will be played on Sunday and Wednesday and the first match will be against Gabon.

Despite the two preparatory matches lined up, Uganda’s preparations have not been smooth as some of their players only joined camp on Monday while five others were expected to join their colleagues yesterday.

The Cranes, as Uganda’s national team is known, were expected to go into camp yesterday at the Federation of Uganda Football Association technical centre in Njeri to acclimatise to the artificial turf as they will play all their group matches in Rubavu on a similar surface.

Coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic has been holding training sessions with players coming from home since Saturday.

The Cranes will kick off their Chan assault against Mali on January 19, moments after the Warriors’ opener against Zambia.

Sredojevic is, however, impressed by the level of commitment exhibited by his players despite the chaotic preparations.

“I am personally impressed by the level of commitment by all players in the first two days of training. We shall continue with the sessions and I believe the players will keep the focus,” Sredojevic told the Federation of Uganda Football Association website.
