EAST Africa’s Queen of comedy, Ugandan Anne Kansiime (real name Kansiime Kubiryaba Anne), will be in Zimbabwe for a once-off show at the 7 Arts Theatre in Harare on November 14.

The show, which is part of her world tour, will see the funny woman sharing the microphone with multi-award winning comedian Carl Joshua Ncube and Doc Vikela.

Organisers of the event, Xtratime Entertainment, said they were hosting the Ugandan entertainer to celebrate the role played by women in society.

“We’re hosting this event to acknowledge the important contribution women have in society. Kansiime’s acts have entertained both genders and she has made her mark in the comedy industry in Africa, which is mainly male dominated,” one of the organisers, Tonderai Mwaita said.

Kansiime’s clips including Lunch break is for eating, Mosquitoe Science and Am I not attractive enough, have captivated many locals who are always up to date with her clips through her YouTube channel – kansiime Anne.

Mwaita said plans were underway to have Kansiime visiting tourist resorts such as Victoria Falls.

“Our wish is to have her arrive in Zimbabwe at least two days before she performs so that we take her to places like Victoria Falls. We want her to see the beauty of our country in order to make her visit worthwhile.”

Tickets to the show, which have been pegged at $20 for regular seats and $30 for the VIP, are expected to go on sale next month.

Kansiime, a 28-year-old comedian and actress, began nurturing her talent in 2007 when she participated in drama skits by Theatre Factory, acted at the Uganda National Theatre in Kampala’s central business district.

When Theatre Factory disintegrated, she joined Theatre Fun which plays every Thursday evening. The best skits were broadcast on NTV Uganda. She was then signed up as a Taxi interview conductor in the MiniBuzz series and provided comic video dramatisations of topical issues that random passengers discussed.

Last year, Kansiime began posting some of her sketch comedy skits on YouTube. She received positive feedback and that encouraged her to post more videos. Her screen breakthrough came when Citizen TV from neighbouring Kenya offered her a slot to produce, star and present a comedy show once a week. That is how she came up with the Don’t Mess With Kansiime comedy show.

As of November 2014, her YouTube channel had amassed more than 15 million views.

Her YouTube videos receive thousands of views and she has appeared on BBC Focus on Africa. She has entertained packed houses in Blantyre, Gaborone, Kigali, Kuala Lumpur, Lagos, Lilongwe, London and Lusaka.
