THE fate of the 2015 Independence Cup will be decided today when organisers of the annual tournament, the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) and the Sport and Recreation Commission (SRC) meet.

The final between Dynamos and FC Platinum was called off due to bad light with Dynamos leading the Zvishavane-based side 1-0 through a Ronald Chitiyo 15th minute goal.

“Zifa alone can’t decide on such a sensitive issue, therefore we will wait till after the meeting with the SRC whereupon a binding decision concerning the way forward will surely be established,” said Zifa communications manager Xolisani Gwesela in a statement on the association’s website yesterday.

He further expressed sincere regret over the unfortunate disruption to such an important event on the national calendar.

“We deeply regret the unexpected disturbance on such a significant day in the history of the country but we accept that such incidents can happen hence we’ve to move forward by finding the fairest of solutions to the situation at hand.

“We also appeal to the participants, FC Platinum and Dynamos, as well as the thousands of supporters who were at the match venue to bear with us for all the inconveniences caused,” he said.

Winners could not be determined on Saturday following the cancellation of the match in the 65th minute due to power failure at the giant National Sports Stadium.

With the Premier Soccer League facing a possible fixture congestion, the match could be decided in the boardroom or the two teams might return to the pitch for the last 25 minutes.
