final touches to their accompanying DVD album.
The group which caused a stir in music circles with their debut release titled “Yesu Arikushevedza” last year, said the DVD would comprise scenes shot both in the UK as well as well as in Zimbabwe.
“We are currently in the country to find ways of further marketing our album and one way of doing it is through shooting a DVD. We are in the process of shooting the DVD and it will have parts shot in the UK and some in Zimbabwe,” Eugenia Mutasa, one of the group members, said.
Masowe EchiShanu sings as a congregation and decided to venture into professional recording out of the need to spread the gospel of God through singing.
“We have always been singing as a congregation as a part of worship but we decided to record in December last year to try and reach out to many people.
“We also realised that singing was another vehicle of reminding people to heed Jesus Christ call that they need to repent and leave their evil ways,” explained Lyndiwe Mabote, another member of the outfit.
Since its release, the album has been receiving rave reviews both locally and abroad, with UK-based Hwamanda Radio Station and the online newspaper Zim Eye touting it as one of the best acappella apostolic choral music albums to come out of Zimbabwe in recent times.
Back home, local media have had several reviews on the album.
“We are grateful to all these people because our music has managed to penetrate the international market where people of all races, colour, creed and different languages have bought it because of its spiritual content.
“Mbiri haisi yedu asi ndeya Mwari. Shoko ngarifambe sekuda kwaMwari (Praise be to God, we are just carrying out His mission. Let the gospel reach out to all corners of the world according to his will),” Mutasa said.
Masowe EchiShanu is probably one of the few local groups on the forefront of popularising apostolic choral music in the Diaspora.
They have five branches in the UK – Southend, Luton, Coventry, Nottingham and Leeds.
