UNITED States baseball coach Bart Bratcher jetted into the country yesterday for a four-day Zimbabwe national team training camp from December 13-17 at Hamilton High School in Bulawayo.

The provisional 32-man squad started trooping into the first of three camps lined up to prepare for the Easter Tournament to be held in Durban, South Africa, in April 2018.

National team coach Washington Nyika said the camp will be used to select the final squad to represent the country at the Durban tournament.

“We have called up a provisional 32-man squad and they will go through their paces until we come up with the best side to represent us in South Africa,” said Nyika.

“We have roped in Bratcher, whom we believe will help our team. His technical expertise and experience in the game will be pivotal to how the boys will perform at the tournament next year. The work also lies with the boys. I believe the only way we can make it is if the boys work very hard. We are going to do our best as the technical team to ensure we come up with the best team. We have had tournaments such as the Dream Cup where a number of teams performed well and we hope the trend continues as we go into camp.

“The more we have foreign guys coming to help us the better for us as a nation,” said Nyika.
