THE Vice Chancellor of Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) Professor Primrose Kurasha has requested participants of the Vice Chancellor’s Tournament which started today to exhibit true sportsmanship.

Speaking at the official opening of the tournament, Prof. Kurasha said competitors must take this opportunity for social integration and self fulfilment as well as break regional and language borders in pursuit of sporting excellence.

“I want to believe, you are much more than people looking for money. Personal and team enjoyment is more valuable than the dollar. I am not saying that it is a bad thing to win. I am fully aware that the tension of teams and competitors vying to be the best is what brings excitement to the sport.”

“I am against those who seek to win at all cost because that spirit may breed cheating, doping or other devious strategies.The pursuit of victory at all cost tends to reduce athletes to economic products.I therefore appeal to you all to exhibit true sportsmanship ,” Said Prof. Kurasha.

Prof Kurasha said competitors must demonstrate respect, making reference to Israeli Olympian, Sasson, who bowed before his opponent after being declared winner.

Milton High School plays host to volleyball while soccer and netball will be played at white city stadium. All indoor sports will be played at Hillside Teachers College and Bulawayo Athletic Club (BAC) will host tennis games.

This year’s edition has seen the addition of Mental Gymnastics.
