A GWANDA woman has been granted a protection order against her abusive cop husband whom she alleged was in the habit of harassing her.

Mrs Sakhile Dugunye in her application said her husband Themba Dugunye who is stationed at the Gwanda Police Station was constantly beating her up and insulting her.

Mrs Dugunye said she had resorted to applying for a protection order as she feared for her life.

“I have applied for a protection order because my husband harasses me. He beats me up constantly and also abuses me emotionally by hurling insults at me and threatening me.

“I now fear for my life because of his behaviour. I stay with my 19-year-old niece and she is always witnessing the abuse everyday which has affected her emotionally,” she said.

Presiding over the matter, Gwanda magistrate, Miss Nomagugu Ncube granted the protection order in default after Themba Dugunye did not turn up in court.

In a related incident, another woman has been granted a protection order against her abusive husband who works as a cook at Mtshabezi High School.

Mrs Sithulisiwe Nkala said her husband Yamkelani Nkala was in the habit of beating her and their two children aged four and seven-years-old. She said Nkala had on several occasions threatened to kill her and their two children. Mrs Nkala said this experience had left their children traumatised.

“My husband habitually beats me and our children and he also insults us. To make matters worse he also threatens to kill me and the children in the presence of the children. I fear for our lives because my husband is a very violent man.

“He also constantly threatens to chase me and the children out of our matrimonial home. This situation has really left my children traumatised because they are still very young to be experiencing such harsh treatment especially from someone they look up to,” she said.

Mrs Nkala said she needed the court to protect her and her children from further torture.

Miss Ncube ordered Nkala to desist from assaulting and threatening to kill Mrs Nkala and their children.

She also ordered Nkala to desist from barring his wife from entering their matrimonial home.—@DubeMatutu
