THE Zimbabwe Volleyball Association (ZVA) will hold an elective congress in Marondera tomorrow.

The committee which will be ushered into office will serve for two years, with the next elections set for December 2018.

The present ZVA executive has Fredrick Ndlovu as the president with Ringisai Mapondera occupying secretary-general’s position while Chips Chipinge is the vice-president (administration). Enias Kondo is ZVA’s vice-president (technical) with Mxolisi Ndlovu being their treasurer.

The committee members in the present ZVA executive are Juliet Kaseke, Sithabisile Khumalo, M Rundu.

Former Highlanders volleyball player and founding member of Bulawayo’s Spartans Volleyball Club Brenda Mundiya is hoping to be the first female to hold the ZVA Secretary general’s position.

She will battle it out with former chairperson of Harare Volleyball Association (HVA) Shadreck Chisoko and national team players’ commission Tawanda Sithole of Mashonaland Central.

Mundiya believes it will be a great development if she is voted as a woman to the critical position.

“I’m humbled to be nominated by four provinces for an executive post previously held by men. My nomination means finally someone has realised that women can lead and do well just like men. As a representative of other women out there, we are looking forward to continue building on the sound base that has been made in the association,” she said.

Mundiya, a seasoned sportswoman, is a holder of a Diploma in Secretarial Studies and has served in several capacities as a player, administrator as well as advocacy and youth development.

Among administrative roles she has held are the interim secretary, vice-chairperson as well as technical and fixtures secretary for the Bulawayo Volleyball Association (BVA).

Meanwhile, Mapondera is vying for the president’s position with Kondo aiming at retaining his seat while Sithole is also competing for the vice-president administration’s post against Brian Manuel.

Those vying for the three committee members’ positions are Khumalo, Nyasha Takawira, Robert Ndlovu, Patricia Muzokomba, John Mulasi and Kaseke.
