VICE President Emmerson Mnangagwa will be the guest of honour at the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) congress to be held in Victoria Falls this week. The three-day event begins tomorrow under the theme: “Economic transformation in a new normal economy: New challenges, New ideas”. Mduduzi Ncube, the regional manager for the ZNCC Matabeleland Chapter, told Business Chronicle that resolutions from the discussions will be presented as input into policy formulation for the improvement of the business environment to foster economic growth.

“The main goal of this year’s congress is to facilitate dialogue between various stakeholders that include the government, investors, the business community, civic society and the academia,” he said.

“This year’s congress will focus on the following areas of discussion; Beyond bond notes, what next? Beyond the IMF’s Staff Monitored Programme (SMP): What’s next for Zimbabwe? Addressing Ease of Doing Business: Progress and Challenges to Date,” said Ncube.

Other topics under discussion will be strategies and options to managing costs in a deflationary environment, reforming the energy sector using a pragmatic approach and revitalising human capital development to suit the new emerging economy. There will also be a discussion on the country risk perception and realities around investing in Zimbabwe and corporate leadership reforms, changing mind-sets and attitudes.

“On Thursday June 30, 2016, the chamber will host the presidential dinner and national awards presentation. This is where winners from regional awards get to compete against each other for the national accolades,” Ncube said.

The national awards are meant to honour businesses which performed exceptionally well in 2015 in driving economic growth and prosperity in the country. Ncube called on all stakeholders to attend the national congress. More than 300 delegates are expected to attend the prestigious event which ends on Friday.
