GODLWAYO Cultural Centre in Filabusi’s Insiza District will come to life tomorrow as it hosts the launch of the National Culture Week.
Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko is expected to launch the programme which will mark the beginning of week-long cultural festivities.

Angilacala Ndlovu, the provincial coordinator of the fete said the culture week which is celebrated in all provinces is meant to celebrate the country’s diverse cultures.

“Preparations for the celebrations are at an advanced stage and we’re expecting VP Mphoko to officiate at the launch,” Ndlovu said.

This year’s celebrations are being held under the theme “Culture Week: Towards Increased Community Participation” which seeks to encourage the participation of people from across the cultural divide.

Entertainment will be provided by poets Albert Nyathi and Lerato Nqindi; musicians Black Umfolosi and Jeys Marabini among others.

Traditional artifacts, food and herbal exhibitions will be the order of the day with 22 exhibitors including Pathisa Nyathi’s Amagugu International Heritage Center, Zimbabwe Republic Police Kuyedza Women’s Club and the Ministry of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development showcasing their wares.

Apart from the exhibition, there will be a chiefs’ procession where each one of them will be accompanied by villagers and a poet to showcase their culture.

Ndlovu thanked the government for assisting them in organising the event.

“We’ve secured 10 beasts that’ll be slaughtered for the celebrations. We’re also going to be feasting on traditional foods to mark the celebrations,” said Ndlovu.

“We’re going to be celebrating our culture while also looking for ways to infuse technology into our traditional customs.

We’ve noticed that our culture has changed, especially with the advent of new communication technologies such as cellphones.”

He said Zimbabwe has a rich culture which needs to be preserved as it differentiates its people from those from other countries.
