VP Nkomo to open Mash East Agric Show

The 50th provincial show, running under the theme: “Improving Agricultural Production through efficient use of available resources and appropriate responses to climate change”, kicked off on Wednesday and will end on Sunday.

In a telephone interview last week, the Marondera Show Society manager, Mr Tonderai Choga, said they had adequately prepared to ensure that the show was a resounding success.
He said they had managed to attract more than 20 companies from outside Marondera.

He said: “We have made adequate preparations and everything is now in shape for the official opening ceremony which will be graced by Vice-President John Nkomo on Saturday. We also expect the show society’s patron, the Governor and Resident Minster, Cde Aenias Chigwedere, Maro-ndera-Hwedza Senator, Cde Sydney Seke-ramayi, legislators, senior Government officials as well as captains of industries to attend.
“We also managed to attract some old members who had cut off links with the show society and also managed to attract new exhibitors. This will be one of the shows to remember. The signs are very encouraging because many exhibitors have already confirmed their participation.

“We have come a long way and in commemorating our 50 years of existence and excellence, we will reflect on our achievements, challenges and what the future holds for us. A number of old members who used to associate with this provincial show society will also join us as we celebrate what they started.
“For the first time in the show’s history, more than 20 companies from outside Marondera will be participating. On the other hand, quite a number of exhibitors from Marondera have already confirmed their participation and are ready for the show.”

Harare-based companies and organisations exhibiting include Tanroy Engineering, Tacshen Holdings, Brake and Clutch, Propac and Nelmar Holdings.
Traditional exhibitors include the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), Parks and Wildlife Management, Unimax Hardware, Environment Management Agency (EMA), the National Aids Council, Kushinga Phikelela, Zee Farmers’ Inn, Malwatte, Surrey Abbattoir and First Stage Hard-ware. Mr Choga further revealed that some schools drawn from Marondera were also part of the exhibition jamboree.
He added: “We offered schools the platform to market themselves to the public and to achieve that, we sent letters of invitation to them. Some schools responded very well and are exhibiting.”
Kwekwe-based musician, Tongai Moyo, will provide entertainment today (Friday) and will be supported by Maggie Mukaranga hitmaker, Josphat Somanje, Music Crossroads winners, Club Shangah and Ngoma Dzepasi Traditional Dance Group.

The provincial show was formed by farmers and provincial captains of industries in 1960 and is widely regarded as an agricultural and industrial focal embodiment that mirrors and connects the province to the outside world.
Its new constitution was adopted at a stakeholders’ meeting held in June this year.

The society’s aims and objectives include organising industrial and commercial exhibitions of products to broaden market bases as well as promote, advance and facilitate farmers’ interests.
The Marondera Show Society is made up of the patron (Governor and Resident Minister (Cde Aenias Chigwedere), the Board of Trustees, the Executive Comm-ittee and the Secretariat.
