Hwange’s Walk of Life musical band will represent Matabeleland North province at the Chibuku Road to Fame finals in Harare after winning the provincial finals last Saturday.

The eight-member group shrugged off stiff competition from nine other groups drawn from Binga, Victoria Falls, Jambezi and Hwange and walked away $1,000 richer.

Victoria Falls bands, Kaseka and Afro band took second and third position.

Walk of Life Band leader Joshua Sibanda said the group which has participated in the Chibuku Road to Fame competition three times is now eyeing the national trophy, promising to represent their province well in Harare.

“It’s been a long journey for us as we’ve entered the competitions thrice and never made it this far. We’re now working hard towards the national finals as we hope to win,” said Sibanda.

The national finals will take place at the Glamis Stadium in Harare on September 22 with nine more groups from other provinces expected to participate.

“We want to give other groups a good run for their money and therefore hope that with the extra effort we’re putting, we’ll bring the first prize to our province.

“We want to make our province proud as no group from Matabeleland North has won the competition since 2006.”

Hwange urban arts association chairperson, Malvin Daka, said he was confident the band would do them proud.
