LIBERATION war hero, Cde Jimmy Kuwana, 55, who died last week on Thursday, will be buried tomorrow at the Bulawayo Provincial Heroes Acre in Nkulumane Suburb.

Cde Kuwana died at United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH).

Family spokesperson, Mkhululi Nkala said: “My brother had been ill for quite a long time and we feel the good Lord has put him to rest. He has left a huge gap though, and as a family, we’ll greatly miss him.”

“He was an honest and straight-forward man with straight answers and we depended on him. This man was also a good adviser and for that he’ll be missed by many. We pray he rests in peace,” said Nkala.

Cde Kuwana joined the liberation struggle in 1977 when he went to Botswana and then proceeded to Zambia where he stayed at Nampundu Transit Camp under camp commander Siboza. He was the Plazo commander under pseudo name Bantubanye Mlilo.

In 1977, he proceeded to CGZ for training and finished in 1978 and was then deployed to Zambian gorges where he waited for deployment. He was eventually moved to Gwayi River Assembly Point in April 1980 after the declaration of the ceasefire.

He was integrated into the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) and held the following ranks: bombardier, sergeant, warrant officer class one, captain, major which is the rank he held until retirement.

Cde Kuwana is survived by his wife Rosemary Kuwana and three children.

Mourners are gathered at his home, 6570 Nkulumane 5, Bulawayo.
