A WARRANT of arrest has been issued for the arrest of a 55-year-old police officer who allegedly raped his three nieces after he failed to turn up in a Bulawayo court for the commencement of his trial.

Paul Haisosvi allegedly abused his wife’s sisters’ trust and repeatedly raped their three teenage daughters that had been entrusted to his care.

Senior regional magistrate Trynos Utahwashe issued a warrant of arrest against Haisosvi yesterday.

Prosecutors say Haisosvi would allegedly leave his wife sleeping on the bed and sneak to the floor where he allegedly abused the children in his one-roomed house.

The court heard that the abuse started in 2012 and was only reported in March this year.

Last year in September, Haisosvi was granted $100 bail and remanded to October 3 pending trial.

He has been on remand ever since.

Haisosvi stayed with his nieces who are children to his wife’s siblings. He allegedly had sexual intercourse with all of them without their consent at Tshabalala Police Station.

The last time he appeared in court, Haisosvi said the children were lying.

“These are spirits that are following me. Whoever is doing this is very good at his work. I didn’t sleep with these girls but I helped them, sheltered them and gave them food and this is how they thank me,” he said.
