The Warriors carry a healthy 3-1 lead from the first leg.

A win or a draw for the Warriors or even a defeat by a one-goal margin will see Zimbabwe qualifying for the 2013 Nations Cup finals in South Africa next year.

Local Government, Urban and Rural Development Minister, Ignatius Chombo, told The Herald yesterday that the Government had decided to play a big part in the Warriors’ quest for greatness.

“As the Ministry of Local Government, Urban and Rural Development, we are supporting the national team in their efforts to qualify for the Nations Cup,” said Chombo.

“We will give each player a residential stand if they qualify for Africa Cup of Nations set for South Africa.

“We will give them a stand each in the northern suburbs.”
A residential stand in the leafy suburbs of Harare costs between $20 000 and $30 000.

Chombo said the Mzansi90, a committee which has been tasked to mobilise resources to provide a package of incentives for the Warriors, approached him with the proposal.

“They approached me and I agreed that we should give the boys the stands if they qualify,” he said.

The Mzansi90 committee, which is chaired by Mbada Diamonds corporate executive, George Manyaya, has so far managed to raise about $300 000.

The committee revealed that they still want more donations to reach their target of $500 000.
Manyaya confirmed from Johannesburg yesterday that the deal for the stands had been sealed.

“I can reveal, with a lot of pride, that the Mzansi90 committee has moved mountains and secured a very exclusive deal for our Warriors in our quest to inspire them to do the best for their country come Sunday,” said Manyaya.

“We have been talking to Minister Chombo and we are happy to reveal that we have agreed that residential stands in the Pomona area of Harare will be made available to the Warriors should they qualify for the Nations Cup finals in South Africa.

“This is the kind of empowerment that we want to see getting to our football players and we hope this will play its part inspiring our boys to really turn on the show in Angola.”

Zimbabwe are on the verge of qualifying for the Afcon finals for the third time after gracing the 2004 showcase in Tunisia and the 2006 edition in Egypt.

Warriors’ coach Rahman Gumbo has called a 30-member squad to prepare for the crucial match.

The number will be trimmed down to 18 before the team’s departure on Friday.
