We made our money in independent Zimbabwe and no-one should reverse these gains-Chiyangwa

The party had set a target of US$150 000, but has so far raised US$165 000 for the conference scheduled for December 15 to 18.
Each province has been asked to raise at least US$150 000 for the conference, whose venue rotates across the country.

Businessman and former Chinhoyi legislator, Cde Phillip Chiyangwa donated US$100 000.
Cde Easu Mupfumi added US$20 000 while Migdale Holdings pledged US$5 000. Cde Chiyangwa, said the Zanu-PF conference should send a clear message to all of Zimba-bwe’s enemies that the party was prepared for elections.

“Next year’s elections are just like the landmark 1980 elections. They will be decisive and some of us want to ensure that the enemy is defeated once and for all.

“There is not going to be a compromise. I have assets with a value of about US$200 million and if it means selling everything to ensure that MDC does not get into power, let it be.

“Zanu-PF brought us independence and it is in independent Zimbabwe where we made our money and no-one should reverse these gains,” said Cde Chiyangwa.

He said President Mugabe should continue spearheading black economic empowerment.

“We have a selfless leader in President Mugabe. He should be the life President of this country.

“There is a mistaken belief that MDC will do well in urban areas, but I am prepared to stand as a candidate in any constituency in an urban set-up and see if I cannot make it.

“It happened in the past when I won the Chinhoyi seat and this will also happen again next year,” he said.

The businessman discouraged political violence.

“We only want to fight through the ballot box and nothing else. We have been too nice to sellouts and this is the time to show them the exit door.

“People were promised change by the MDC, but where is the change? They are just good at talking and nothing else.

“The MDC-T ministers in the inclusive Government are trying very hard to frustrate the gains of the liberation struggle but we know their game,” he said.

Zanu-PF secretary for indigenisation and economic empowerment, Cde Saviour Kasukuwere, hailed the party for its constitutionalism.

“Our constitution stipulates that we hold the Annual People’s Conference in December every year and we have never failed. “After every five years we hold our People’s Congress and we have never failed.

“But we all know that MDC-T leader, Morgan Tsvangirai’s term of office lapsed but he is afraid to go to congress.
“All our leaders have the mandate of the people because they were put in office by the people at our congress in Harare last year.

“How can you expect a person to rule the country when he does not even respect his party’s constitution? We are calling all members to gear up for the elections and we should not sell out.

“Let us go into the elections to regain lost territory. As leaders we should not impose candidates against the will of the people.

“The person who is chosen by the people should be allowed to contest,” said Cde Kasukuwere.
