OILERS shot to the top of the Bulawayo Basketball League men’s table after winning two of their weekend games.

Oilers first beat Nust B 89-32 before edging Highlanders 71-61.

The wins moved them to 12 points from six games. Noah Penduka top-scored in both encounters, grabbing 21 basket points in the game against Nust before notching 23 points against Bosso. The loss saw Bosso dropping from second position to fifth.

Oilers are yet to lose a game this season and coach Ernie Noble said they had their eyes firmly on the title.

“The boys have been playing well this season. Our hope is that we continue this fine run as we chase the title. Obviously being crowned champions will not be easy, but l believe we have enough arsenal in our ranks to dominate the season,” said Noble.

“Our major strength this season has been the level of team work. We have been training hard and efforts put in at training are bearing fruits on the court in the form of good results.”

In other matches, City Knights’ struggles continued after they suffered a narrow 45-48 defeat at the hands of Nust A.

The women’s division saw Lakers Seniors continuing their fine by crushing Divas 94-16 to shoot to the top of the table.

Lakers now have 12 points from six games, closely followed by Nust, who are two points behind. Defending champions Southern Mavericks are three points off the top, but have played a game less than the top two teams.
