Reverend TT Chivaviro

Ebenezer hit-maker, Reverend TT Chivaviro has made a bold declaration saying they will not be entering their music in any awards competition.

This comes after he lost the Zimbabwe Music Award (Zima) Song of the Year award to Wink D’s Disappear – a song which fell out of the required cut-off date of consideration.

As a result, Chivaviro feels God is communicating something to them, hence their decision to stop participating at awards ceremonies.

“I think God is saying something to us about this award thing because the same happened at NAMA. Our music should just be for spreading the gospel to all nations and our satisfaction should come when people get touched by our music, hearts uplifted, souls healed etc.

“I’m sure we’ll not be entering these things again, we’ve since asked our manager not to enter us for awards in future,” Chivaviro said.

Asked what God was saying to them, Rev Chivaviro said: “God’s saying our main calling is not for music that wins awards but for music that touches and transforms lives.”

“We thank God for the reception we got for our song which touched from the little 2-year-olds to the President of the nation,” he added.

Zima spokesperson, Farai Chapoterera conceded to the anomaly saying they included Winky D’s song because “we knew that the public was not going to understand if Disappear was not included in that category…”

He also said their decision should not be seen as jealousy or an issue of sour grapes, especially after also losing out to Mathias Mhere in the Traditional Gospel Music category.

“Mathias is a young brother to me and we’ve been chatting even this morning (Sunday) about my launch on Wednesday which he’s attending. I even congratulated him on winning,” explained Chivaviro.

“God speaks in different ways to different people and these NAMA and ZIMA happenings were a big lesson to me in particular.”

Meanwhile, Rev Chivaviro will be launching the sequel to Ebenezer today at the Anglican Cathedral in Harare. Titled ‘Mhepo Inoperekedza – Tiri Munyasha Part 2’, the launch starts at 5:30PM. – Zimbuzz/Showbiz Reporter.
