HIGHLANDERS’ player of the moment Peter Muduhwa believes his team’s next two league matches against Harare City at Rufaro Stadium on Thursday and Ngezi Platinum Stars at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday are must-win encounters if they are to challenge for the title.

Muduhwa, who has become the Bosso fans’ darling for his consistent performances in defence, said they cannot afford to stutter if they are to take the championship fight to the wire.

Highlanders and Harare City played to a 1-1 draw in the first leg and Muduhwa believes the boys from the capital hold the key to their title race.

“It’s not a secret that we are in the race to win. We want the championship and if we’re to keep that dream alive, we’ve to collect maximum points against Harare City and Ngezi Platinum. The focus now is on Thursday’s trip to Harare before thinking about Sunday,” said Muduhwa.

“I also believe this game comes at the right time when we’re back in form, but we expect a tough game against Harare City. We’ll fight to get maximum points at all costs”.

Highlanders are third on the Castle Lager Premiership table with 41 points from 23 games and trail pacesetters FC Platinum by six points.

Bosso travel to Harare following three consecutive league wins, including the famous 2-1 victory over old foes Dynamos at Barbourfields Stadium just over a week ago. Prior to that, Highlanders had claimed the scalps of How Mine and Border Strikers, beating them 2-1 and 2-0 respectively.

Highlanders are also bubbling with confidence following Sunday’s 2-1 victory against Mutare City Rovers in the first round of the Chibuku Super Cup.

Muduhwa and his buddies are aware that Harare City won’t hand them points on a silver platter.

The Sunshine Boys are in sixth place with 32 points and their aim is to finish the season among the top eight.

Bosso should be wary of Harare City, who thrashed Border Strikers 4-0 in the first round of the Chibuku Super Cup last Friday.

Log leaders FC Platinum travel to Beitbridge for a date against table anchors Border Strikers hoping to avoid an embarrassing defeat against a side that looks destined for a return to the First Division.

Strikers’ new coach Luke Masomere, who received a baptism of fire when his side was clobbered 4-0 by Harare City, will be praying that his charges put up an improved performance and spring a shocker against the championship hopefuls.

Second-placed Caps United have a tricky away tie against ZPC Kariba at Nyamhunga Stadium.

The Green Machine have 46 points, just one behind FC Platinum, and should be at their best to snatch victory at the expense of ZPC Kariba.

There are three mid-week fixtures for Bulawayo, starting with tomorrow’s Bulawayo City-Triangle United encounter set for Barbourfields Stadium.

On Thursday champions Chicken Inn play host to Mutare City Rovers at White City Stadium, while How Mine welcome Hwange at Luveve Stadium.
