PRISONS and Correctional Services outfit Whawha’s Central Soccer League (CSL) title charge suffered a huge dent when the region’s disciplinary committee found them guilty of causing the abandonment of their game against Makusha.

The September 16 match was abandoned in the 87th minute at Makusha Grounds in Shurugwi when Makusha took the lead.

Whawha supporters started throwing missiles onto the pitch after the goal forcing the referee to abandon the game after failing to restore calm.

The disciplinary committee led by Reginald Chidawanyika awarded Makusha the match on a 3–0 score line and further slapped the prisons and correctional services outfit with a $500 fine.

“The offence of bringing football into disrepute is a serious one as it casts aspersions on the league and scare away sponsorship and there is also a likelihood of damage to property and persons.

Wherefore, the club is sentenced as follows: (i) a fine of US$500 …,

(ii) pay costs of the disciplinary hearing (iii) and the match is awarded to Makusha on a three nil score line,” read part of the disciplinary committee judgment.

The ruling leaves Whawha in third position with 61 points, three points behind log leaders Tongogara.

Meanwhile, Tongogara extended their lead at the top of the log standings after second-placed Nichrut were held to a goalless draw by Black Eagles in a mid-week fixture.

The army side were inactive this weekend as they were supposed to face expelled Border Strikers and were awarded three points.

Whawha were also inactive on Wednesday and earned free points, as their opponents Kwekwe Stars were expelled from the league for failing to pay affiliation fees.

Despite dropping points, Nichrut still believe they are in the race.

There are five rounds of matches before the curtain comes down on the season and it is now a three horse race for the sole promotional ticket.
