THE promotional race in the Zifa Central Soccer League (CSL) took another twist when prisons and correctional services side Whawha edged Tongogara 1-0 to reclaim pole position.

Whawha’s win threw wide open the promotional race.

Whawha and Tongogara are now tied on 58 points, with the former sitting on top of the table because of a superior goal difference.

Whawha gaffer Luke Petros-Jukulile was pleased with the win which he said keeps them on track in their quest for a return to the topflight.

“This is a good result for us and the one which we badly needed. We now need to make sure that we maintain the momentum for us to return to the Premiership,” Petros-Jukulile said.

His counterpart, Kelvin Maphosa, who saw his side’s unbeaten run since the beginning of the season going up in smoke, was a disappointed man.

“It is a disappointing result but it is water under the bridge now but what is important is to pick ourselves up after this loss and focus on the next game,” said Maphosa.

Meanwhile, Nichrut came within a point of the log leaders when they beat Vumbachikwe 2-0 away in Gwanda to keep the heat on Whawha.

Former Highlanders striker Jacob Muzokomba struck twice as the Shurugwi based outfit continued with their fine run.

John Nyikadzino, the Nichrut coach, was satisfied with the result.

“I am happy that we are maintaining our good form and it is good that this has happened at this stage of the season. Our focus now is to ensure that we continue with the fine run and do the job for ourselves and not to worry what others will be doing,” said Nyikadzino.
