demonisation and economic strangulation of Zimbabwe all point to the fact that despite their pontification, Westerners haven’t changed one bit from the bigands who yoked our people like oxen.
They are obsessed with global power politics.

Many times there is a tendency to apportion blame for the murderous effect of Western imperialism on a specific leader, for instance it was quite common to blame George W. Bush, the self-confessed war-president.
He was indeed a ruthless warmonger but it is naive to explain his atrocities on the basis of his moral and intellectual deficiencies.
What Bush did differently was his brazen and blunt style of aggression but what he served was a principle and a system with a long standing foundation, and this system could not be corrected by US citizens simply deciding to vote out “the Bush rascals” and voting in the smiling ‘democrat’ Barack Obama.

Nothing that is happening in Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, Cuba and Palestine is new.
The US in particular and the West in general have been tormenting Latin America, Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe for close to two centuries now.
Much of the aggression has always been premised on the doctrine of “defence against external threats”.

This is a pretext with the cosmetic cover that says all targets of Western aggression are always guilty of offending Western sovereignty.
In this lexicon Gaddafi wanted to bomb Europe, Hitler wanted to gas the planet, Saddam Hussein was about to do an Armageddon on all of us and Osama bin Laden wanted to kill everything called Westerner.
In 1985, Ronald Reagan went on national television and warned of Soviet intentions to surround and ultimately destroy the US by taking over Latin American states, and he backed his claim by using what he called a quotation from Lenin, a statement that no intellectual has ever found in any historical record or in any textbook or novel.

Reagan even tried to convince himself and all Americans that US security and sovereignty was at dangerous risk because there were people like Fidel Castro of whom he said, “Like a roving wolf, Castro’s Cuba looks to peace-loving neighbours with hungry eyes and sharp teeth.”
This is a similar image portrayed over the political character of President Mugabe today – some tyrannical monster with hungry eyes and sharp teeth ready to devour Zimbabweans.

Reagan and his crowd were convinced that the instability that was being fostered by the subversive works of the CIA in Latin America were a result of “a power play by Cuba and the Soviet Union, pure and simple”.
The US backed coups and proxy wars all had a benign effect and it was all the fault of Cuba and the Soviet Union simply enjoying power plays.
This is the same logic that says the deadly economic problems bedevilling Zimbabwe stem from “Mugabe’s unsound policies” or “the gross ineptitude and incompetence of Zanu-PF” or “the lack of farming skills by resettled black farmers”.

It is a logic that says the ruinous EU, US, Australian and Commonwealth sanctions are all benign, simply they are there to send a chilling message to Mugabe cronies that they are banned from shopping at Western malls.
When the Contras were unleashing their banditry on the civilian citizenry of their own country, Nicaragua, in the eighties; the White House accused Nicaragua of “increased aggressive behaviour” against Honduras and Costa Rica – two countries that had agreed to host the Contras for Washington.
George Shultz, the then US secretary of state, thundered, “We have to help our friends resist the aggression that comes from these arms.”
Nicaragua was said to be engaging in a breach of US sovereignty by fighting two US client states that were dutifully carrying orders of hosting a US proxy army. For defending themselves against American onslaught; they were “the aggressors”.

In the 1920s, Mexico and Latin America were seen by US Secretary of State Frank Kellogg as having “set up as one of their fundamental tasks the destruction of what they term American imperialism.” He concluded, “Thus Latin America and Mexico are conceived as a base for activity against the United States.”
Zimbabwe set up as one of its fundamental tasks the destruction of white hegemony over the agrarian system and for that the country has since 2000 been seen as a base for activity against Western imperial supremacy.

This is how one offends Western sovereignty. One’s resources belong to the US’ New World Order and not to individual countries and any deviation from this doctrine is an infringement on Western sovereignty.
During World War 1, Woodrow Wilson sent his marauding warriors to Haiti and the Dominican Republic at the same time he was invading Mexico. This was done in the name of fighting the Huns. For accommodating the hand of the Huns the Haitians were breaching American sovereignty.
They needed to be taught a lesson and marine commander Thorpe explained, “whoever is running this revolution is a wise man; he certainly is getting a lot out of the niggers . . . It shows the handwork of the German”.

This was despite the clear fact that the de facto leader of Haiti at the time was Col Waller of the US Marines, a man who had just gained his credentials from ruthless atrocities in the conquest war against the Philippines.
Waller had particular hatred for mulattos, or persons born out of a white-black parentage, the likes of Barack Obama. Of them he said, “They are real niggers and no mistake . . . real nigs beneath the surface.”
Perhaps this is why it is a standing fact that Obama is a “black president”.

The murderous lout, Waller, was not alone in his despising of “lesser peoples”. Woodrow Wilson’s Secretary of State, William Jennings Bryan, found the Haiti nigs quite amusing and he remarked, “Dear me, think of it, Niggers speaking French!” Bryan’s successor, one Robert Lansing justified the Haiti invasion saying, “the African race are devoid of any capacity for political organisation and genius for government”.
I have been told to my face by later day Lansings that this is the problem of Zimbabwe today and recently one member of the “superior race” expressed fear that South Africans are heading towards disaster by “following the logic of alcohol, song and dance” in choosing their political leadership.

With a clearly frightened face, my friend asked, “What do you reckon will happen with that Zuma man in power?”
The Zimbabwean story is told to prove that blacks are devoid not only of any capacity for political organisation but also have no skills for production and farming. Now they are accused of signing agreements that they cannot even implement and this must indeed show the world that Africans have no “capacity for political organisation”.

Those with a “capacity for political organisation” occupied Haiti for 19 years, and when they left the country, it was a nightmare of misery and repression. They have been occupying Iraq for five years now and the country is now a perfect dictionary of chaos and free style killings.
US president McKinley was so angry with the Filipinos for fighting for their independence that he accused them of “assailing our sovereignty”.

He added, “There will be no useless parley, no pause, until the insurrection is suppressed and American authority acknowledged and established.”
It is like Theodore Roosevelt writing in his book The Winning of the West, “The most ultimately righteous of all wars is a war with savages” something he said, “established the foundations for the future greatness of a mighty people.”

Roosevelt also reiterated the “incalculable importance of suppressing the red, black and yellow aboriginal owners of much of the world in favour of the dominant world races.”
He called the Filipinos “Chinese half-breeds, Malay bandits, savages, barbarians, a wild and ignorant people, Apaches, Sioux, Chinese boxers” and many other names.

For such efforts Roosevelt earned himself the Nobel Peace Prize just like Lyndon Johnson did with his South Vietnam atrocities.
That is the joke that has become of this supposed honour – a reward for pro-Western goons. General Otis confidently suggested to the US congress that the Filipinos were not fighting for their independence but “to control the Philippines so they could loot them”.

His colleague, General Funston told a New York Times reporter that, “the natives are, as a rule, an illiterate, semi-savage people, who are waging war, not against tyranny, but against Anglo-Saxon order and decency”.

Legitimacy to protect the territorial integrity of the DRC from Ugandan and Rwandan-backed rebels, the war was not seen as fighting for the defence of Congolese sovereignty but as “to control the DRC so they can loot the mineral wealth”.

When Zimbabwe later decided to repossess its stolen land from the occupying white settler farmers the land reform programme was portrayed as involving “an illiterate, semi-savage people, who waged a war, not against tyranny (nor injustice), but against Anglo-Saxon order and decency”.

Now that this “order and decency” was destroyed, Zimbabwe is now portrayed as a lawless jungle with no capacity to even form a government.
The subversive and ruinous sanctions are not mentioned and if they are mentioned then they are mere travel bans. The blockade on lines of credit is explained away as nothing but Zanu-PF propaganda to stay in power.

Zimbabwe offended British sovereignty by “fighting against Anglo-Saxon order and decency” as evidenced by the fact that 75 percent of the arable land was occupied by just 4 000 white farmers in a country of 13 million people. Zanu-PF cannot simply be portrayed as a blameless victim of Western machinations because some in its membership have been complicit to the ruinous campaign that has rendered the country such a sorry sight.

There is no denying that corruption within Government at a time the country is under siege has been a fact of life within the ruling party.
Notwithstanding these glaring shortcomings, the larger picture of the problems facing Zimbabwe remain rooted in the fact that the country has challenged and upset a hegemony

It is now incumbent upon Zimbabweans to take Zimbabwean matters in their own hands and to stand united in finding a lasting solution to the problems affecting our one and only country – a country firmly founded on the promise of self-determination.
