the tourism sector in the country.
Speaking at the 20th anniversary celebrations and rebranding of the company last week, chief executive, Mr Neil Lumsden said Zimbabwe had diverse attractions to offer which include the Victoria Falls, Kariba Dam, Chizarira and Hwange National Parks.
“These are iconic destinations,” he said. Wilderness Safari commenced operations in Botswana in 1991 as Sefofane and has operations in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia among others.
Mr Lumsden said their Zimbabwe operations started in 1999 and had brought enormous benefits to their activities.
“We started our Zimbabwe operations in 1999 at Victoria Falls but at the end of the year we had achieved what had taken us eight years to achieve in Botswana,” he said. The company operates over 40 light aircraft that are used to ferry tourists during their visits in and around the country.
Mr Lumsden said apart from the vast attractions in the country, Zimbabwean employees were contributing significantly to the day-to-day operations of their company.
“We have Zimbabweans in every aspect of our operations in every country we have operations in,” Mr Lumsden said. The company is listed on both the Botswana and Johannesburg Stock Exchanges and has an annual turnover of one billion Pula. Mr Lumsden said as part of their social responsibility they promoted conservation of resources among communities they operate in.
“If we did not have the natural resources we have, we would not have the tourism we have,” he said.
