Winky D and Sulumani Chimbetu have signed up for Jah Prayzah’s Fill Up The HICC concert. The gig, an imitation of Cassper Nyovest’s #FillUpTheDome will be held on New Year’s Eve to create a culture of supporting local content. It will also serve as test of Jah Prayzah’s popularity. Jah Prayzah’s manager, Keen Mushapaidze said the gig would be a thank you to fans for supporting them during the year.

“2015 was a good year for us so the big gig is meant to celebrate our achievements which we attribute to our fans’ support. While we derive inspiration from fans’ support of international artistes, we want to prove that we also command a big following locally,” Mushapaidze said.

Harare rarely has notable shutdown gigs on December 31 so we expect this show to be a big one especially with a line-up which includes Souljah Love, DJ Stavo, Judgement Yard, Seh Calaz, Alexio Kawara, Roki and Jah Prayzah himself. Standard advance tickets which will be sold from Monday have been pegged at $5 and $10. VIP tickets will cost $20.

A DVD for Jerusarema was premiered last week at Ster Kinekor in Harare. Provisions are being made that it gets distributed at Coloursel outlets nationwide and sold at traffic lights from December 29.

Mushapaidze said he was confident that they would fill the 4,500 capacity HICC as they have done their research well and have a star-studded line up.

“We’re doing our best to ensure we fill up the HICC. We’ve a lot of surprises for fans. The band is hard at work rehearsing in preparation for the big day,” he said.

But before the year-end gig, Jah Prayzah performs in Binga tonight and Hwange at the Colliery Stadium on Christmas Eve. He will play at the Cathedral Hall in Gweru on Christmas Day before travelling to Marondera the next day for a performance at Legends Bar. Bindura follows on December 27 and lastly Mutare at Pick and Save on December 30.

Mushapaidze said the band was hard at work recording their next album. Production of some songs is already complete with fans set to sample some of the tracks at the Fill Up HICC concert.

“One of the songs off the new album, ‘Goto’ is more of a traditional celebratory song with deep lyrics dwelling on our traditional culture. We tried to mordenise our culture explaining rituals.”
