A 35-YEAR-OLD woman from Bulawayo’s Njube suburb collapsed in court after the magistrate remanded her in custody. Tibora Nyamutsona woke up later and found herself in the cells.  She wept uncontrollably.  She had appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Tancy Dube charged for possession of fake money. She pleaded guilty to the charge and was remanded in custody to August 4.

Prosecuting Kenneth Shava said Nyamutsona was found in possession of fake money worth R1,500 which is legal tender in South Africa and Zimbabwe.
“The accused person was found in possession of fake bank notes which were suspected to be used for unlawful purposes,” he said.

The court heard that on July 30 at around 6PM, Nyamutsona was found with fake money at her house.
She was arrested by a police officer stationed at Njube after he received a tip off from a bar manager who discovered that Nyamutsona was buying with fake notes.
Nyamutsona told the court that she was given the fake notes by a certain man in South Africa.

“I admit that I had the money in my possession but I also got it from someone in South Africa. I did not know the money he had given me was fake. Please have mercy on me,” said Nyamutsona.

She begged the court to remand her out of custody for she was on medication.
“Your worship, please remand me out of custody for I am on medication. I have to go to hospital for my review. Prison life is not conducive for my health,” said Nyamutsona.

Shava denied her bail and she collapsed.
