A PREGNANT Gwanda woman was yesterday granted a protection order against her husband who is a policeman in the mining town.
Webster Madhlabuzela, 27, a policeman based in Gwanda who has been emotionally abusing his wife Rutendo Sibanda, 22, was yesterday ordered by magistrate Olivia Mashava Mashaire to stop insulting his wife, calling her names or even threatening to assault her.

Sibanda said her husband generally abused her; sometimes he does not bother to come home and he phones his girlfriend in her presence.

“He comes home late and sometimes doesn’t come home at all and has not been buying food at home despite the fact that I am pregnant. I still want my marriage but I no longer have peace,” said Sibanda.

However, in response Madhlabuzela dismissed the allegations as utter lies.

He also shocked his wife by informing her before the court that he no longer loved her.

“The truth is that I no longer love this woman. I have a child with another woman and sometimes I phone her to find out how our child is doing. I also have an affair with another woman that I love and am planning to marry,” said Madhlabuzela.

Sibanda said it was her first time to hear about that child sired outside their marriage.

A visibly hurt Sibanda also said Madhlabuzela had wasted her time by paying lobola for her and impregnating her.

Although the magistrate granted the protection order, she said it was difficult for the court to give her the relief she needed as her marriage to Madhlabuzela allowed polygamy.
