POLICE are holding a Victoria Falls woman after she allegedly plunged a knife into her husband chest three times, in a fight over debts.

The incident, which left 42-year-old Ronald Sithole in the Intensive Care Unit at Victoria Falls District Hospital, occurred at around 6AM on Monday.

Catherine Chipangura Moyo, 31, was arrested hours after the incident.

Speaking from his hospital bed yesterday, Sithole told The Chronicle he would not press charges against his wife as he loved her and did not want her to go to prison.

He had six stitches just below the left breast and was waiting to go for an X-ray to determine the extent of the injuries.

“She is my wife, we’ve been together since 2007 and I’ve forgiven her. Once I’m discharged I will go and withdraw the charges. We’ve been arguing because she goes around buying things on credit and we’re in serious debt.

“I’m always paying debts that she creates and yesterday we were talking about a $60 debt which she was supposed to repay after she took a blanket on credit,” said Sithole.

“Somebody came asking for the money and when I asked her how she is going to repay it she told me she would do so in a few days’ time.”

He said all hell broke loose when he quizzed her on how she intended to pay when they were struggling to get money.

“That’s when she pushed me. I slapped her and she suddenly stabbed me with something. I think it was a knife,’ said Sithole.

He said he was going to phone his relatives to ask for money for an X-ray once he is fit to do so.

“They said I should go for an X-ray and I want to call my relatives to get me money because I don’t have anything.”

A Chronicle news crew visited the couple’s rented house in Chinotimba suburb mid-morning where neighbours said for a moment they thought Sithole would die as he could not speak.

“It was around 6AM when we heard children screaming and we thought that their mother had left them alone. We then saw Na Lolo (Moyo) running out to tell her landlady she had stabbed her husband. She appeared very confused,” said a neighbour.

Some neighbours said the couple, which has been married for eight years and has two minor children, was in the habit of fighting.

They said: “Moyo leads an extravagant lifestyle but they can’t afford it because the husband is not formally employed.”

Sithole, the neighbours said, is self-employed in the construction industry as a painter

“I think it’s important for one to learn to live within her means. She loves a lavish life which she can’t afford and that’s why they usually fight,” said a neighbour.
