A MOTHER of five children sired with different men yesterday dragged her estranged husband to court, demanding an increase in maintenance for one of her children. Damson Zuwa, who resides in Harare yesterday, dragged Lincolin Ushamba, a Harare businessman earning about $2,000 per month, demanding an increase of $150 to $350 for the upkeep of their child. She told the court that all her children’s fathers were paying maintenance.

Ushamba claimed that Zuwa has made about 16 applications over maintenance and had moved the matter to Bulawayo as a way of forcing him to commute, thereby fixing him.

The matter was heard by magistrate Sheunesu Matova. He postponed it to October 10.

“Your worship I have four other children to take care of. When the order was granted, the child was three years old and now she is six. She is now grown up and no longer eats the same way she used to. She has to dress up and now wears a bigger size,” she said.

“I cannot afford to share the fees with her father. Her father also owns a company called KWMM as well as haulage trucks.”

She told the magistrate that her child has school fees arrears that needed to be paid, adding she could not look for another school for her before clearing the debts.

“My income is $500 and I get it from one of my houses in Harare. I have contributed towards food and transport, maids, incidentals as well as transport,” she said.

Ushamba dismissed the claims and told the court that Zuwa is a person of means as she can travel to Bulawayo from Harare every month.

He said he could not afford to pay the money that Zuwa was demanding.

“When she took the child to Conway College, she did not discuss that with me. I suggested that she takes the child to a government school but she went on with her decision,” Ushamba said.

“I had to look around for money to pay the school fees. I also have another child who is at school and I am struggling to pay for her fees. The company is struggling just like any other company in the country.

“The company that she said I own is a private limited company and the trucks are registered under the company. I am just a minor shareholder in the company.”
