ZIMBABWE women football boss Mirriam Sibanda and two of her board members will this morning have a vote of no confidence passed on them during an extra-ordinary meeting to be held at the Zifa Village, Chronicle Sport has established.

The meeting is, however, in total violation of the Zifa constitution.

According to a circular sent out to clubs, the proposed agenda of the meeting will be to discuss the current state of women football, club requirements as well as finances and sponsorship.

The circular is tellingly unsigned and states that the meeting will go ahead with or without the women football bosses’ presence.

Vice chairperson Elizabeth Langa and board member competitions, Cecilia Gambe are believed to be the masterminds of the illegal gathering together with Zifa chief executive officer Jonathan Mashingaidze.

Gambe and Langa have been camped in Harare for more than a month now at a time the national association’s financial problems are well known. Zifa honorary member Cecilia Malunga is also said to be behind the push to oust Sibanda after she was overheard saying that Sibanda will not be in office by April 25.

Zifa communications manager Xolisani Gwesela last night said he was not aware of the meeting and referred questions to the women football leadership.

However, Chronicle Sport is in possession of the circular convening the meeting set for 9AM this morning at the Zifa Village.

“The assembly will be meeting on April 20, 2015, at the Zifa Village at 0900hrs. We therefore request an audience with you. The ZWF Assembly has also invited the Zifa president Dr CE Dube, The CEO J Mashingaidze and the Zifa honorary members. The meeting will proceed with or without your presence,” reads part of the notice.

Recently Zifa councillors called for an extra-ordinary meeting that was swiftly turned down by the leadership. Sources within the women football circles last night revealed that the agenda is just but a smokescreen as the real agenda was to pass a vote of no confidence on Sibanda, board member development Ben Mamoshe and board member finance Edwin Magosvongwe. Sibanda has been a strong critic of the Zifa chief executive officer.

“This whole issue has been brewing and it came to a head after the Ghana trip by the Mighty Warriors. There was a $60,000 donation to the team and it looks like the money was somehow not properly used and from our knowledge, the donor, who preferred anonymity, is actually related to the Zifa president, Cuthbert Dube,” said a source last night.

The source said after the vote of no confidence on Sibanda, she will be replaced by Gunners president Cuthbert Chitima’s wife who will lead an interim board until the next elections in 2018.

Chitima is a member of the Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries (PHD) church, led by Walter Magaya who recently donated wads of cash to the Mighty Warriors ahead of their return leg against Ghana.

Sibanda, as the leader of women football in Zimbabwe, did not attend the handover ceremony.
