A BULAWAYO man allegedly bashed his workmate with a brick on the head after his colleague asked him why he had taken long to return from a tea break. Methebe Mnkandla, 22, allegedly assaulted Future Muchimba, 27, on Tuesday at MacDonald Bricks where the two are temporarily employed. Mnkandla appeared before magistrate Batanai Tuwe charged with assault.

He told the court that he became angry when Muchimba insinuated that he was late because he had been ogling his (Muchimba’s) wife.

Prosecuting Tinovimba Chimvinga said that on September 1 at around 11AM, Muchimba confronted Mnkandla on why he resumed work late after a tea break. “Muchimba accused Mnkandla of being late because he was leering at his wife. After being pushed to the ground Mnkandla retaliated by hitting Muchimba on the head with a brick, leaving him unconscious,” he said.

In his defence Mnkandla pleaded with to court to be lenient with him as he was angered by the accusation.

“We tried to talk about the issue but Muchimba just accused me of ogling his wife,” he said.

The case was postponed to September 8 for ruling.
