THE Presidential Youth Interface Rally fever has gripped Gwanda with the event becoming the talk of town as preparations are in their final stages ahead of Saturday’s eagerly anticipated gathering.

President Mugabe is expected to meet youths at Pelandaba Stadium for the 6th Presidential Youth Interface Rally being hosted by Matabeleland South province.

Work at the venue in preparation for the rally is almost complete with the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority putting up a new transformer at the stadium.

A provincial local organising committee also toured the venue over the weekend and expressed satisfaction with the progress.

Gwanda municipality has also spruced up the streets and youths in Gwanda are planning to embark on a clean-up campaign ahead of the event.

Gwanda East District Zanu-PF political commissar, Cde Takura Nyoni, yesterday said people were excited about the President’s visit.

“The morale in the streets is very high in this town. People are very much hopeful and excited to meet their President and icon Cde RG Mugabe. As youths we have mobilised our colleagues that we throng Pelandaba Stadium in big numbers. No one will remain home on this important day,” said Cde Nyoni.

His sentiments were echoed by his counterpart, Gwanda West District political commissar, Cde Emmanuel Ncube.

“We are not leaving anything to chance to make sure that the day becomes a success. It’s our day as youths when we are going to meet our leader and interact with him the whole day. He will be listening to our grievances and also address them. Morale is very high as everyone in the town is waiting for this big and special event,” said Cde Ncube.

Matabeleland South will host President Mugabe following successful interface rallies held in Masvingo, Manicaland, Matabeleland North, Mashonaland East and Mashonaland West provinces.

Last week Zanu-PF Youth League Secretary, Cde Kudzanai Chipanga, expressed optimism that there will be a bumper crowd at Pelandaba Stadium as has been the case in other provinces.
