YOUTHS must register to vote to ensure a resounding victory for President Mugabe, the Minister of Rural Development, Promotion and Preservation of National Culture and Heritage, Cde Abednigo Ncube, has said.

In a speech delivered during the Matabeleland South youth league inter district meeting attended by about 3 000 youths in Gwanda yesterday, Cde Ncube urged youths to be united and rally behind President Mugabe ahead of next year’s harmonised elections.

“The most important thing is to be united. We should all register to vote and make sure that our only candidate, President Mugabe wins resoundingly. From today onwards everyone here is a commissar to make sure that people come for the interface rally here in Gwanda. It’s supposed to be a youth rally but please come with all your elders. No-one should remain at home,” said Cde Ncube.

Zanu-PF youth league national deputy secretary, Cde Mpehlabayo Malinga, who was the guest of honour at the meeting, said the province was ready to hold the Presidential Interface Rally scheduled for early August.

President Mugabe is on a tour of the country’s provinces to interact with youths.

So far he has met youths in Masvingo, Manicaland, Matabeleland North and Mashonaland East provinces and tomorrow the fifth rally is expected to be held in Mashonaland West.

“As we meet the president tomorrow, we will tell him that Matabeleland South is ready to receive him and interact with him on the day of the interface rally. We didn’t expect to see this huge number of people here. It shows us that Matabeleland South is ready to host the rally,” said Cde Malinga.

He said the youth interface rallies were a result of a request made by the Youth League to President Mugabe to interact with the youths.

“The request was made after realising that when other youths met the President at the One Million Man March, others didn’t manage to go. The President then agreed and said he would talk to Amai (Dr Grace) and Politburo members so that he meets his children. The day is important to us as this puts in motion the election campaign. We should make sure that our only candidate, President Mugabe wins the elections,” Cde Malinga said.

Zanu-PF provincial chairperson Cde Rabelani Choeni said his executive was strongly behind the youth league.

Meanwhile, former ZBC DJ, Cde Dingimuzi Phuthi, was yesterday endorsed as the new provincial youth league chairperson for Matabeleland South following the sacking of Washington Nkomo.
