ZANU-PF Bulawayo Province is set to host a fundraising dinner for about 300 guests on Saturday to raise money for the party’s annual conference being held in Victoria Falls next month. Organisers of the event are aiming to raise over $500,000 for the National People’s Conference which will run from December 7-13.

Cde Absolom Sikhosana, the Bulawayo provincial organising secretary for the conference, yesterday appealed to the Bulawayo community to support the fundraising event.

“This fundraising dinner is for a noble cause and we encourage people to come forward and support. This is a very important conference held to shape the destiny and direction of this nation,” said Cde Sikhosana.

He said tickets for the gold class are pegged at $15,000 per chair. “We also have tickets for $10,000 for a table of ten or $1,000 for an individual and a table for 10 for $5,000 or $500 per head. We have 30 tables on offer,” said Cde Sikhosana.

He said Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko, who will be accompanied by senior party officials, would be the guest of honour at the event to be held at the Bulawayo Rainbow Hotel. “VP Mphoko will be there as our guest of honour and the VP would be interacting with the business people throughout the proceedings,” said Cde Sikhosana.

He said entertainment would be provided by the prison band and other performing groups. Matabeleland North Province on Saturday held a fundraising dinner where the finance committee led by Cde Sithembiso Nyoni raised $46,000 cash and 10 beasts.

About 6,500 delegates are expected to attend the conference. Over the weekend, Matabeleland North provincial chairman Cde Richard Moyo said preparations were on course and most of the work was almost complete.

“Tents are already there while work on access roads and parking area is 95 percent complete,” he said. According to the progress reports presented by respective committees on Sunday, preparations are more than 90 percent complete,” he said.

“There will be mobile clinics and four ambulances, Zinwa has undertaken to ensure enough water supplies for the period, electricity connections have been fitted on site while hotels and lodges will start allocating rooms this week.”
