ZANU-PF councillor for Ward 12, Mkoba, Gweru, allegedly raped a 16-year-old girl several times at gun point at a local lodge. Councillor Charles Simbi, 44, of Southview, appeared before magistrate, Judith Taruvinga, yesterday and was remanded out of custody on $100 bail to March 10 for trial. Better known as “Drosky,” which is the personalised registration name of his Chrysler, Clr Simbi according to the prosecutor, Daniel Tafuma, allegedly lured the girl to a lodge in Lundi Park in September, after which he asked her for sex.

The girl, Tafuma said, refused to comply with the councillor’s sexual demands.

“Simbi then produced a pistol, threatened to shoot her, forcibly removed her clothes before pushing her onto the bed,” he said.

“Simbi removed his clothes and raped the complainant once.”

“Drosky” the court heard, repeatedly raped the girl in the same manner from that date up to November last year.

Clr Simbi allegedly told the girl not to reveal the incidents to anyone.

However, the complainant ended up reporting the matter, leading to his arrest.

Brian Dube of Gundu and Dube law firm represented the councillor.
