Zanu-PF intensifies restructuring exercise

Webster Shamu yesterday attended a branch inter-cell village committee conference at Dzingai Nhamo co-operative in Chegutu.
He emphasised the importance of setting up grassroot structures across the country.

Cde Shamu said grassroot structures were the cornerstone of the party and regular audits were necessary for its strength.
He urged party supporters to understand their positions and their importance.
According to the party’s constitution, Cde Shamu said, such meetings should be held every month.

He said the party leadership at all levels should keep registers with party members’ names.
“We want you to understand how we build party structures. In Zanu-PF we build the party from the grassroots, starting from the cell. If you are not doing this as a leader you are not building the party.

“We do not want to lie to the President at national conferences that we have people yet there are no structures at grassroots levels.
“We also want to see branch meetings of this nature being held at regular intervals,” he said
Cde Shamu said members had a task to mobilise membership and ensure that party structures were intact.

He also outlined how party structures operated from the cell up to Politburo level.
Cde Shamu said party members belong to cells regardless of their positions in the party.
“Even President Mugabe belongs to a cell. When you are a Politburo member you don’t chair cell or branch meetings but you only attend as a member of the party,” he said.

On developmental projects, Cde Shamu said he would launch a project to resuscitate the national herd in the area.
He said livestock was important in black people’s livelihoods and mechanisms should be put in place to resuscitate the herd.
Addressing the same gathering, Cde Shamu’s wife Constance, who is the chairperson of the Zanu-PF Women’s League in Chambara district, urged the party leadership to write the party’s constitution in Shona and Ndebele.

“This is important because most of our people do not understand what they are required to do in the party,” she said.
Cde Shamu, who was accompanied by Dynamos soccer star Murape Murape, donated 16 bicycles to all district commissars in Chegutu East district.

Murape, who took to the podium amid wild cheers from the people, donated soccer and netball balls.
He said people should take sports as a source of income.
Murape pledged to co-ordinate a soccer tournament to be funded by Cde Shamu in Chegutu East to identify talent in the constituency.
