ZANU-PF Matabeleland North province has intensified campaigns to regain the Tsholotsho North constituency with party members focused to ensure that Professor Jonathan Moyo emerges victorious in the June 10 by elections.Zanu-PF provincial chairman Cde Richard Moyo said the province had set up campaign structures in the constituency and “every other party business had been put on hold” until the day of the election.

He said everyone is behind Prof Moyo.

“We have set up teams on the ground to intensify the campaign. We stopped everything in the province to focus on the constituency so that we win the election,” said Cde Moyo.

“People are fired up and raring to go and are saying they have now realised they made a mistake by voting an MDC-T candidate (Roseline Sipepa-Nkomo) who neglected them on the election day in 2013 as she never did anything for the electorate.”

He said the party had put up structures that were helping to renovate clinics, boreholes and roads.

“As we speak graders have been sent to the constituency and work has started on a number of roads and we are working with all structures as we are just deploying teams without necessarily considering whether one is from the Youth League, Women’s League or Main Wing,” Cde Moyo added.

Provincial youth chairman Cde Tamuka Nyoni recently said they would also visit every district in the province to mobilise party supporters with the aim of rebuilding cell structures.

The Tsholotsho North seat fell vacant following the recalling of 21 MDC Renewal Team lawmakers after they defected from the MDC-T.
Prof Moyo will face two candidates with links to the MDC-T and the MDC Renewal Team, who filed papers as independent candidates.

Elsewhere in Bulawayo there will be by-elections in Makokoba, Luveve, Pelandaba-Mpopoma, Pumula and Lobengula.

In the Midlands, Mbizo voters will go to the polls as well while by-elections in Harare will be held in Highfield West, Glenview South, Kuwadzana, Kambuzuma, Dzivarasekwa and Harare East constituencies.

In Manicaland, by-elections will be held in Headlands and Chikanga-Dangamvura. In Mashonaland West, Hurungwe West will be contested.
