THE Zanu-PF Matabeleland North and South provinces hold their provincial coordinating committee meetings (PCCs) this weekend to prepare for the elective Youth and Women’s Leagues conferences slated for next month in Harare.
Elections for the Youth League will be held on August 7 to 10 while the Women’s League will hold its polls between August 20 to 22.
Zanu-PF Matabeleland North provincial chairperson, Cde Richard Moyo, yesterday said the province’s meeting would be held in Lupane tomorrow and attended by senior party officials. “We’re meeting as the provincial directorate to discuss different issues including the vetting of candidates that will take part in the elections during the Youth and Women’s League elective conferences in Harare next month,” he said.

“All senior party officials including Politburo members and ministers in the province are expected to attend the meeting. The vetting process will be done to ensure all aspiring candidates qualify for the posts they are applying for.”

His Matabeleland South counterpart, Cde Andrew Langa, said their provincial meeting, which was initially scheduled for today, would be held in Gwanda tomorrow.

“The meeting is specifically meant to prepare us for the two forthcoming conferences. We received circulars clearly spelling out the rules and regulations to be followed by candidates to take part in the elections,” said Cde Langa.

“We therefore have to make sure that those rules and regulations are followed.”
Zanu-PF Bulawayo provincial chair Cde Callistus Ndlovu also said his province was busy preparing for the two conferences but could not say when their PCC would be held.

The Politburo recently announced a raft of rules and regulations governing the imminent internal poll.
According to the regulations, all aspiring youth members should have served the party at national level for five years while Women’s League contestants should have been party members for at least 20 years and also have a previous record of serving at national level.

Youth League candidates should be 35 years and below.
The applications would be sent to the national directorate, which would meet and approve the candidates who meet the party’s guidelines.
