ZB BANK members of staff at the weekend donated two tonnes of mealie-meal and foodstuffs worth $2,500 to Mpilo Central Hospital.

The donation comes at a time when the hospital is faced with the challenge of feeding more than 600 patients.

Speaking during the handover ceremony at the hospital, ZB Bank district manager for Bulawayo, Maxwell Sabetha, said the donation was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.

“We’re proud of this initiative and know it’s not much but we hope the donation will go a long way in helping to feed the patients here. We’ll continue doing more for the hospital,” said Sabetha.

The groceries included rice, tinned food, cooking oil, salt and detergents among other things.

ZB Bank manager, Nkosilathi Nkiwane, said corporates such as banks should not wait for occasions such as Christmas to help those in need.

“Christmas time isn’t the only time when organisations should seek to help the less privileged or the sick. People should make a collective effort and be socially responsible to the communities that surround them,” said Nkiwane.

Zinia Ndlovu, catering manager at the hospital, said some of the donated groceries would be used to prepare therapeutic feeds for children who are undernourished. These feeds will be administered orally or through nasal feed.

Director of Operations at Mpilo Hospital, Duduza Moyo, said she was grateful for the timely donation and urged the bank to continue supporting the hospital.
