ZIFA has welcomed Government’s move to revive sport by making an undertaking to build multi-sport facilities in all the country’s 10 provinces.

The undertaking was made by Finance and Economic Development Minister Patrick Chinamasa in his 2018 national budget presentation in Parliament last week.

Chinamasa said the Government would ensure national stadia have bucket seats in line with international trends.

Zifa president Philip Chiyangwa said it was refreshing and encouraging that the Finance Minister mentioned the revival of sport as instrumental to aiding the new dispensation’s economic recovery thrust.

“I am glad that the new leadership shares my dream of revolutionising the sports industry so that it actively contributes towards the gross domestic product. In football, we are ready to work with the Government towards the construction of state-of-the-art facilities that are crucial in our quest to host major tournaments,” Chiyangwa told the official www.zifa.org.zw website.

In his budget presentation, Chinamasa indicated that Government would work towards establishing a vibrant sports industry, centred on multi-sports facilities to be constructed around the country.

He also said they would levy sports betting bookmakers five percent of their gross figures and use the money to upgrade community recreational centres throughout the country. — @skhumoyo2000
