ZIFA Southern Region Division One League will this evening honour their most outstanding players and coach for the just ended season. It’s the inaugural stars awards for the region. The event, bankrolled by Machache Meats, will see the Soccer Star of the Year and his two runners up walking away with trophies and individual monetary awards.

“Our season is over now and its time to honour our outstanding players, besides the Soccer Star of the Year and his runners up, we will have the Golden Boot Winner and the Coach of the Year,” said board member Bryton Malandule last night.

The 11 outstanding players have already been chosen and it is from that list that the individual players will be selected from.

Malandule said they asked the clubs to do the selection themselves after noting that journalists rarely attended Division One matches.

“However clubs were not allowed to select their own players and that way, we felt only the best and deserving players will be awarded,” said Malandule.

Tsholotsho FC striker Edmore Chirambadare is already assured of the Golden Boot Award and could cap a fine evening by even winning the big one. Chirambadare’s coach Lizwe Sweswe is odds on favourite for the Coach of the Year after bringing Premiership football to rural Tsholotsho.

The deputy Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Tabeth Kanengoni-Malinga is expected to be the guest of honour.
