ZIFA will await a full board resolution on whether or not to field a candidate for the forthcoming Confederation of African Union (Caf) executive committee elections which are scheduled for April 2015 in Cairo, Egypt. Zimbabwe falls under Caf southern zone together with 13 other member states and African legend and Football Association of Zambia president Kalusha Bwalya is the outgoing Caf member for the region.

“At the moment no one from our region has approached us for support but we will stand guided by our board on whether to support a fellow regional member or throw in the hat ourselves,” said Zifa communications manager Xolisani Gwesela.

Caf has six regional zone executive committee members being the North, West A, West B, Central, Central East and South zones.
During the 37th annual general meeting, there will also be elections for the two seats of representatives of the continent on the Fifa executive committee.

“According to the provisions of articles 18 paragraph 5 and 6 of Caf Statutes, the names of the candidates must be submitted by their National Association and sent to the Caf Secretariat in Cairo either by registered mail, or by express courier, and the deadline for the receipt of candidatures by Caf General Secretariat in Cairo is January 6, 2015. The postal stamp of Cairo Post office will be taken as evidence for the candidatures sent,” the Caf secretary general Hicham El Amrani said in his communiqué to member associations.

The Caf Executive Committee shall validate the received candidates in its meeting scheduled after the deadline stipulated for the reception of applications.
