Entrepreneur of the Year Awards where the winner will be announced later this month.
Mr Believe Guta of Begu Holds Foundation is representing Zimbabwe and will compete with three other finalists from South Africa, Kenya and Uganda.
The prize will be handed in May at the World Economic Forum on Africa Summit to be held in South Africa.
The Schwab Foundation helps equip young people with entrepreneurial skills. Through this foundation the finalists have the opportunity of attending the meeting with other renowned entrepreneurs.
Those who intend to enter can either do so in partnership or individually. Mr Guta described the contest as an experience to sharpen his entrepreneurial skills.
“This opportunity is going to help me be more equipped in terms of poverty alleviation and developing economic skills that will help in shaping the economy of Zimbabwe,” he said.
Schwab Foundation head Ms Abigail Noble said to be a finalist requires a lot of time and effort so that one can reach the top with creative ideas. A good business model would be critical to help build economies.
The Schwab Foundation searches for leading social entrepreneurs around the world. Social entrepreneurs have been selected into the foundation network after due diligence exercises that include outside expert reviews and site visits.
Until today the network includes over 190 social entrepreneurs.
For countries where the foundation does not run a national competition, participation happens through through a regional selection. Currently the Foundation searches for applicants from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and Middle East and North Africa.
For each region, between three and five social entrepreneurs are elected annually.
