ZIMBABWE’S Under-14 team for the Confederation of School Sport Associations of Southern Africa (Cossasa) ball games to be held in Lesotho next week is confident of gold medal hauls.

Forty-six athletes that will represent Zimbabwe in boys’ soccer, netball, tennis and rugby are at a training camp at Bulawayo’s Northlea High School ahead of their departure for Lesotho next Monday.

The Cosassa games will run from August 31 to September 2.

Elton Sinyosi, the National Association of Primary School Heads (Naph) national sports and welfare chairman said the team’s preparations had gone on smoothly and they are confident of winning the event.

The rugby team has been training at Hartsfield Ground, with the boys’ soccer and netball teams practising at Northlea, while tennis is using the Bulawayo Athletic Club (BAC) courts.

“We started our camp in Bulawayo last week on Monday and training has all been going on well. Everyone looks excited and the goal as Naph is to retain the netball title and also challenge for gold in the boys’ title after finishing second in the last edition held in Botswana. We’re trying to get our boys to play the Bantu Rovers’ Bulawayo Junior League team as part of our preparations. The girls will also play a couple of friendly games against Bulawayo schools,” said Sinyosi.

He said the Under-17 soccer, netball, tennis and rugby teams that are under the National Association of Secondary School Heads (Nash) will join them after the end of the Zimbabwe National Youth Games that start in Matabeleland North this morning.
