THE Zimbabwe national ladies pool team believes South Africa will be their biggest threat at the All-Africa Blackball Championship set for Kampala, Uganda, next month.

Besides being the tournament’s defending champions, the South African ladies also conquered the world at the global finals held recently.
Zimbabwe team captain Christine Sengwa, however, said they will not show South Africa any respect when the tournament gets underway in Kampala as they were looking forward to carving their own piece of history.

“The only team we have to work harder to beat is South Africa, as their ladies’ team just took a gold medal recently at the World Cup, meaning they will be in top form. Last year we got silver, so we believe we can do way better this year,” said Sengwa, who is one of the top pool players in the country.

The Bulawayo-based Sengwa is also the Zimbabwe Pool Players’ Association treasurer.

Team Zimbabwe, comprising nine men and seven ladies, is set to go into camp in Harare on October 28 until their departure for Uganda.

The squad has secured kit sponsorship from Kings Billiards Bulawayo through Godfrey Kondo, who has also helped secure air tickets for the team from ZLG.

Other countries expected to take part in the continental tournament are Egypt, Tanzania, Kenya, DRC, defending champions South Africa, Malawi, Morocco, Nigeria and Libya.

The tournament is held under the auspices of the All-Africa Pool Association (AAPA), whose aims and objectives are to encourage, promote, develop, advance, administer, control and unite all cue sports within Africa.
