ZIMBABWE will for the first time host the Insurance Congress for Developing Countries (ICDC) that seeks to create business networking opportunities and enabling partnerships for players in the insurance sectors.
The 18th edition of the ICDC to run under the theme, “Insurance TRENDS, opportunities and challenges in Developing Economies” will be held in Victoria Falls from September 27 to October 2.

“This year’s congress which is being held in Zimbabwe for the first time is happening at a time when the sector is facing major challenges including issues of capacity, insurance penetration challenges, changes in customer expectations and demands and regulatory changes,” ICDC Zimbabwe local organising committee chairperson Grace Muradzikwa said in a statement.

The congress also focuses on creating an enabling platform for new product development ideas and strengthening of ties among companies in the sector.

Furthermore, it is hoped that the forthcoming annual congress which will attract more than 400 visitors from different parts of the world would provide an opportunity for delegates to experience the best in Zimbabwean hospitality.

Muradzikwa said they expect insurance executives from developing countries across the globe to attend the international conference.
“The local insurance industry is delighted and privileged to host the ICDC and we look forward to the sharing of knowledge and the business opportunities that will be created not only for the insurance sector, but also for other sectors in the economy. We also urge local companies that want to partner with the insurance industry in hosting the congress to come forward as there are many branding opportunities to be gained from partnering with us in hosting this conference,” she said.

The annual congress, a brainchild of the Association of Insurers and Reinsurers of Developing Countries (AIRDC), which is a member-based insurance organisation headquartered in the Philippines, brings together insurance executives and experts to share best practice and discuss common issues affecting insurance business in their countries.

Commenting on this year’s congress, AIRDC president Dr Jagath Alwis said, “The theme of the congress is very appropriate as all stakeholders in the insurance industries in developing countries are seriously concerned about the present trends.”
