ORGANISERS of the Arts and Culture Indaba and the Zimbabwe Music Awards (Zima) have agreed that their events run concurrently as measures have been put in place to ensure the two events run successfully.
The annual Arts and Culture Indaba will be held in Bulawayo and the Zimas will be held in Harare on October 29.

NACZ communications and marketing officer, Cathrine Mthombeni said the events clashed after the Zimas, which were initially meant to be held on October 3, were moved to October 29, a date that the NACZ had already set for the Indaba.

In a joint statement, the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe, which organises the Arts and Culture Indaba, said they had met with Zima organisers and agreed that both events go on as planned.

“NACZ and Zima met and agreed that the two events would continue. Logistical arrangements have been put in place to ensure the two events happen successfully.

“All efforts have been made to ensure that both events take place concurrently and smoothly with the full support of key stakeholders in the arts and culture sector,” Mthombeni said.

Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Andrew Langa is expected to officially open the two-day Indaba which ends on October 30.

The Indaba is held annually to discuss, deliberate and recommend specific courses of action in the cultural sector.

Mthombeni said by hosting the events on the same day, Zima and NACZ were not competing but actually committing themselves to continue working hand in hand to advance the development and promotion of the arts in Zimbabwe.
