BULAWAYO Provincial Minister of State, Cde Eunice Nomthandazo Moyo has described Zimbabwe as one of the most peaceful countries in the world. Minister Moyo made the remarks during the Minister’s Ball on Independence Eve at which she condemned the on-going xenophobic attacks on foreign nationals in South Africa.

“What is happening in South Africa is bad. It gives us the feeling that Zimbabwe is number one when it comes to peace. This is our dear country. We were born here, we live here and we will die here . . . that is our Zimbabwe, number one, always peaceful,” she said.

Zimbabwe marked its 35th Independence Day on Saturday.

Minister Moyo attributed the peace prevailing in the country to the country’s founding fathers and legendary leaders, President Mugabe and late Vice-President Cde Joshua Nkomo.

“The peace we are enjoying was brought by two men ubaba our President uMugabe and our late Vice-President ubaba uNkomo who decided that Zimbabweans should enjoy peace after a lengthy liberation struggle.

“These two people led the liberation struggle through their parties’ military wings, Zanla and Zipra forces. These two were integrated into the Zimbabwe National Army, forming a peaceful union and helped create a peaceful nation. The union (of Zanla and Zipra) brought about peace and protection for everybody in our country. This is why we are enjoying peace up to this day,” said Minister Moyo.

She urged Zimbabweans to work hard even in the face of tough times brought about by the Western imposed illegal sanctions.

Minister Moyo said only hard work will help the country progress and develop.

“Sometimes we’ve to look at ourselves for solutions and work out how Zimbabwe can be better for everyone. Let’s make it a country where we can live without complaining. I believe if we work hard as Zimbabweans and make the best out of what we’ve no one will complain,” she said.

Prior to the fundraising event, Minister Moyo had donated foodstuffs to two old people’s homes, Ekuphumuleni and Entembeni.

She expressed gratitude to the corporate sector for supporting the Minister’s Ball as all tables were sold out.

Bulawayo Provincial Administrator, Khonzani Ncube, said funds and donations received at the event would be announced soon as some pledges were still being made.
