The ZITF Coca-Cola Four-Minute Mile qualifiers moves to Pelandaba Stadium in Gwanda today as the search for athletes to participate in the finals set for Bulawayo on April 28 continues.

The qualifiers will be held alongside the province’s track and field athletics competition.

The Coca-Cola Four-Minute Mile is an annual men’s competition with a pre-requisite time of four minutes 31 seconds for one to qualify for the final that will be held at the ZITF main arena.

Successful athletes from today’s qualifiers will proceed to the semi-finals set for White City Stadium on April 27 before the final the next day.

Organisers of the qualifiers, Bulawayo Athletics Board through their chairman, Manuel Mpofu, confirmed to Chronicle Sport that all was set for today’s meet.

“We are taking the Four-Minute Mile qualifiers to Gwanda. We are doing this because we want to get more athletes from different areas in the country to take part in this competition and we are looking forward to surpassing last year’s number of athletes that took part in the final.

“Thirty one athletes have already qualified for the semifinals. Athletes including Dumo Mkhwananzi, Xolani Nkiwane, Denford Mlilo and last year’s champion Trust Chidomaya have qualified for the semi-finals where we are going to pick the top 20 for the final based on time,” said Mpofu.
